Executive Director’s Profile
Ian Fleming offers a wide range of experience in education, vocational training, careers advisory work and industry. He was Higher Education Manager for Edexcel until the autumn of 2008, while previous posts have included senior management in a professional institute and in the careers service, as well as industrial training.
Ian holds several qualifications at degree and postgraduate level,
BA (Hons),
Certificate in Education ,
Diploma in Careers Guidance,
MPhil (by research, Sheffield University) and a
Postgraduate Diploma in the Education, Training and Development of Adults (City University), together with several specialist awards in areas of personal interest, such as archaeology. . He currently runs his own consultancy, specialising particularly in HE in further education.
He has considerable experience in quality assurance and has developed and managed a major external quality assurance process. Ian has undertaken supervisory and management training in a range of industrial and public sector organisations and has presented papers at events and conferences throughout the UK, Ireland and further afield. He has also organised, and successfully delivered, a variety of practical projects in vocational education and training. Ian is currently working as a QAA Review Coordinator and a BAC Inspector, in addition to a range of other projects and activities.
Ian`s interests include long distance walking, canoeing and other outdoor pursuits. He grows vegetables on an allotment. A long term research interest is the history and archaeology of the Roman province of Dacia (in Transylvania) but he is also keenly interested in Irish, Welsh and Scottish history, as well as transport history and economics and the politics and history of Eastern Europe. Ian has produced a handful of papers and publications, one of which, on an aspect of the Glyndwr Revolt in 15th century Wales, is due to be reissued during 2009.
